“‘Wabi-sabi is a Japanese philosophy that finds beauty in simplicity and the natural process of aging over time,’ Jazmin Hamid, design curator and founder of Hashi Home, tells Real Simple. ‘In interior design, wabi-sabi is about creating spaces that reflect the fleeting nature of materials where raw and imperfect textures are celebrated. The focus is on balance, simplicity, and harmony.’ According to Hamid, the history of wabi-sabi ‘dates back to 13th century Japan’ when ‘a simple tea ceremony started this movement.’ Expect earthy tones and imperfect organic shapes. ‘The main ingredients are natural materials like wood, stone, clay, and linen that show their character over time.
